Soapnuts are also known as soapberry, washberry, ritha, or washnuts. They are a dried berry rather than a nut but their outside appearance looks rather like a soft walnut. Soap nuts contain saponin, a natural and effective surfactant. A surfactant is a substance that reduces the surface tension of liquids so that the liquid spreads out, this allows for easy flow throughout water and facilitates the release of dirt, oils, and grime.

Our Soapnut berries are from the Sapindus Mukorossi tree growing wild in Northern India.
One Soapnut tree produces hundreds of kilos of berries each year. When the soap nut berries fall from the tree, they are gathered, sun dried, and then deseeded ready for use. Each soap nut berry may contain concentrations of saponins up to 14% . The saponin is released when they come into contact with water and agitation, creating mild soap suds.
Soap nuts are natural anti-fungal, antimicrobial, biodegradable and hypoallergenic.  >> More....
